How it all started..

February 8, 1965 was the day that Technische Handelsonderneming L. van der Spruijt was officially registered at the Chamber of Commerce by Lourens van der Spruijt. One day later, on February 9, the first invoice was issued to cycling specialist Staals in Utrecht. This was the beginning of a long journey, which still continues to this day.

In the very beginning, Lourens supplied the products directly to the two-wheeler market. The range consisted mainly of moped parts such as gears, pistons, buddyseats and remarkably high handlebars. It was these extra-high handlebars that created a need for longer cables. At the same time, the demand for cables continued to grow, not only from the world of two-wheelers, but also from various industries.

Brand name ‘Elvedes’

As the demand for cables kept on growing, the brand name Elvedes was born. Elvedes is composed from the name L. van der Spruijt; L-V-D-S, pronounced as: El-vé-des.

Around 1977 Elvedes decided to focus exclusively on the assembly and distribution of mechanical control cables, both for the two-wheeler industry, and for other sectors.  The Elvedes brand found its way into the wholesale trade and from there into the retail trade.

Family owned business

In the following years, Elvedes established its name as a trusted player in the Benelux and far beyond. The brand grew steadily and found its way to many bicycle wholesalers and industries. In 2002 Lourens handed off the baton to his two sons, Carl and Peter. Together they continued Elvedes and made the brand to grow further. In addition to cables, new product groups were added and Elvedes began to function as a one-stop shop.

Almost 60 years after the start date, we can proudly say that Elvedes has grown into a wonderful family business. The products find their way to the aftermarket, worldwide. Elvedes stands for quality, innovation and reliability.
